Have look at this post where a young person Tanisea Campbell tests out the UNICEF platform Internet of Good Things – a set of free, mobile-ready web-based resources and applications that bring good to life and education to children with no internet access.

Firstly, thank the God for Internet of Good Things! What is the Internet of Good Things? This is UNICEF’s project with Facebook Free Basics to give information and advice to keep young people and families healthy and safe. And they asked me – a student at Mount Alvernia High School in Montego Bay – to test it out and let you know how I found the experience!

It was simple, and useful for persons my age on a budget. Also it’s free to access it when connected and browsing using the Digicel mobile network.

Once you access you’ll find several useful sites like Facebook Messenger and Wikipedia, and from UNICEF especially the following three:

• Sexual Health – guidance on sexual health and relationships.
• Connect Smart – how to use the Internet safely.
• Facts For Life – raising healthy families e.g. Zika prevention.

Browsing around, I found that the information was relevant, unique and presented in a way that I haven’t found elsewhere.

All In is a site that helps to educate individuals about sex, sexually transmitted diseases, relationships, gender and love. This is very useful in our current society for there are high numbers of youths in the Caribbean affected by sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and becoming teenage mothers.

Facts for Life is another beneficial site that the Internet of Good Things provides. As the name states it actually gives you facts for life – information that can save lives, improve health and reduce suffering. The information they provide includes that about diseases and how to prevent them, parenting and family life, children and keeping them safe and emergencies.

There have been many reports of an increase in cyber-crimes, thus Connect Smart is now available to users to guide them about the Internet and by all means showing them how to do so smartly – which importantly includes keeping yourself and others safe from harm. Connect Smart gives you information on how to decide whose requests you can accept, what are scams from those that aren’t, and how to keep things private.

All these sites are very beneficial because they provide Facts for Life, encourage us to get All In to access more information about the world we’re living in at the tips of our fingers, and in the long run help us to Connect Smart!
