The Children for Health Policy on Internships

Many organisations today are offering unpaid work opportunities. We are not keen on this and especially if this work has no realistic prospect of paid employment later. Internships can only be taken up by those who can afford it thereby excluding many people whose skills and expertise may be well suited for this work.

We are concerned that those who already have fewer opportunities continue to be excluded from this sector as charities look to employ those with internship experience as ‘the norm’. We like to pay people for their skills and time with us and so we fund raise to do this.  From time to time we will have part time work available and sometimes we will need volunteers to work with us on a particular task for a short time.
